The Importance of a Healthy Diet

The health of our body mainly depends on what we eat and drink. Sometimes, an illness may occur due to an unbalanced diet. Nowadays, many of our diseases are food-related: obesity, heart problems, liver or pancreatic dysfunctions, or even cancer. If one has an unhealthy diet and a stressful life, she/he will certainly develop diseases.

Doctors describe a healthy diet as one that combines lots of fresh vegetables, fruits, leafy greens and less meat. It seems that happiness also depends somehow on our diet due to the fact that a varied diet, which includes fresh vegetables, fruits and nuts sustains our immune system. So, our mental health state may depend on our physical health that depends on our diet. In this respect, one can recall the ancient Latin quote: Mens sana in corpore sano! (Healthy body, healthy mind).

We should keep in mind that the simplest foods are usually the healthiest, the more processed the food is, the more unhealthy it is. To maintain our body and mental health we must avoid unhealthy foods and drinks, do sports and control our emotions. So, remember that you are what you eat!
